If you step into Sensational Crafts on any given day, you’ll notice something extraordinary. It’s not just the sunlight filtering through the tall windows, glinting off colorful ribbons and jars of glitter. It’s not even the irresistible scent of freshly sharpened pencils mingling with the faintest memory of Londys’ fish and chips wafting through the door. No, it’s the feeling of possibility—the kind of magic that happens when creativity takes flight.
This little shop has seen countless projects come to life. Some start as whispers of ideas—a scrapbook for a new baby, a handmade card for someone special, or a school project that needs a touch of sparkle. Others arrive in a burst of enthusiasm, with arms full of supplies and minds brimming with visions.
And then there are the customers who walk in unsure of where to start. That’s where Yvonne steps in, her trademark twinkle in her eye. “What can we help you with today?” she’ll ask, and soon enough, an idea begins to bloom.
An Award-Winning Haven for Creativity
But when we stood there with that award, it began to sink in: the magic of Sensational Crafts had touched more hearts than we ever imagined. This recognition wasn’t just for us; it was for every crafter who’s wandered through our door, for every handmade gift made with love, and for every scrap of paper turned into a masterpiece.
In 2024, April to be precise, something unexpected happened to our little shop. Sensational Crafts was honoured with the Australian Small Business Championship Award in the Arts, Crafts, and Gifts section. At first, we didn’t quite realize what it meant. After all, we’ve always seen ourselves as a humble space—a secret shared by dreamers, artists, and creative souls.
The Projects We Love
In this installment of The Creative Corner, we’re sharing a few of our favorite crafts—the ones that make our shelves sing and our hearts soar:
- The Humble Scrapbook – A book filled with stories, photos, and memories. We’ve seen scrapbooks for weddings, new babies, family reunions, and even adventurous travels. Each page is a blank canvas for love.
- Handmade Cards – There’s something about a handmade card that a store-bought one can’t match. Whether it’s elegant, quirky, or brimming with glitter, a handmade card feels like a hug in an envelope.
- The Magical Mixed Media – For those who love experimenting, mixed media combines papers, paints, ribbons, and imagination. These projects often leave our floor sprinkled with glitter, but the results? Simply stunning.
